With miles of golden sand and captivating coastlines, Newquay boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Cornwall.

Wherever you stay in Newquay you are never too far from one of the twelve golden beaches, each one offering a different beach experience for each day of your stay.

You will find that most of the beaches in and around Newquay are all golden sand, making it more comfortable for you to enjoy your day at the seaside. Whether you are looking for family fun, where the children can go exploring the rock pools, a relaxing cove to sit and listen to the waves gently crash against the shore, or maybe even give surfing a go then Newquay beaches have it all.

Many of the beaches will have a restaurant nearby for you to sit and soak in the atmosphere at the same time as having a well-deserved drink or meal. In the evenings why not treat yourself to dinner and enjoy the view whilst watching one of the stunning sunsets Newquay has to offer? 

The World Famous Fistral Beach

Fistral Beach is Newquay's iconic beach, quite simply one of the most consistent and best surfing beaches in the UK. This beautiful beach is west facing, long and sandy and backed by sand dunes, rocks and cliffs.

Fistral is the perfect family beach offering simple pleasures of sea and surf combined with first class beach and seafront facilities including surf equipment hire, lessons, car parking, restaurants and cafes.

This world class beach is also home to some of the biggest events and festivals.

Staying Safe on the Beach

Newquay is a resort to revive your spirits - a beach paradise and the surfing capital of England. For yours and everyone else's safety always swim at a Lifeguarded beach and always do as the Lifeguards tell you.

The RNLI give the following advice:

• Always swim at a lifeguarded beach
• Swim between the red and yellow flags
• Never swim alone
• Know your beach safety flags
• Never use inflatables in strong winds or rough seas
• If you get into trouble, stick your hand in the air and shout for help
• If you see someone else in trouble, tell a lifeguard. If you can’t see lifeguards call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard
• Find out about the beach you’re going to before you visit
• Check tide times before you go
• Read and obey local hazard signs

Dog Friendly Beaches

Most of the beaches in Newquay are dog friendly all year however toe do have some restrictions for Porth Beach & Tolcarne Beach. Information on all Cornwall Council owned beaches regarding dog access can be found here Dogs on beaches - Cornwall Council.

Beach Accessibility

The beaches have varying levels of accessibility- so please check the details about each beach before visiting them.

As a guide, the beaches nearest the town centre are accessed by both steps and roadways. The most central beach, Towan Beach has a fairly steep roadway, whilst the roadways down to the Harbour, Tolcarne Beach and Great Western are a little steeper. Porth Beach is one of the most accessible beaches with a public car park on the end of the beach nearest Newquay and a shallow concrete slope down to the beach at the other. The popular surfing beaches Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay have car parks adjacent to them with access by shallow roadways. Lusty Glaze and Whipsiderry Beach only have access via steep steps.
