Beach Sports
With its long sandy beaches Newquay and the surrounding area are ideal for a number of beach sports; either to watch or to participate in yourself.
Professional beach sports competitions on Newquay and Watergate beaches include Beach Volleyball and Beach Polo (yes, with the horses)
Beach sports you can get involved in include Kitebuggying and Landboarding. Kitebuggying uses a recliner trike powered by the Kite you are holding. This is both tide and wind dependent and depending on those you can pick up some exhilarating speeds powering down Watergate beach - just by the power of the wind! Landboarding is similar - it’s powered by the kite you are holding but instead you are standing upright on a large wheeled ‘skateboard’.
But of course beach sports can just be what you improvise, set a net up for a game of beach tennis, badminton, or volley ball. Compete for sandcastle building or have a go at crabbing using crab lines or have fun with fling rings. In the end our sandy beaches are a soft landing whatever sport you do on it! Pop in to the Visit Newquy Tourist Information Centre to purchase your beach goods.
