Newquay has seven golden sandy beaches, blue seas, the Gannel Estuary, Trenance Gardens and Boating Lake so is a great place for outdoor adventure - or simply relaxing watching others do the adventuring. 

Get Wet Outdoor Activities

Virtually every water and beach sports, activity and past time is featured in and around Newquay. Newquay is iconic for its surfing and there are a number of surf schools that teach surfing or body-boarding, from the first time novice to those brushing up on their skills. There are also plenty of places to hire surfing equipment such as boards or wetsuits if you want to just enjoy trying it for yourself. Although please take note of the flags showing surfing areas and advice from the Lifeguards.

Like the idea of jumping from the cliffs into the sea? Well that’s basically what coasteering is! With trained professionals who know the tides and any hidden dangers, plus supply the correct safety gear, this is the only safe way to do it and it makes for some truly exhilarating fun. There are adventure centres based in Newquay where you can do various beach, cliff and sea activities from coasteering to surfing.

Water adventure isn’t always in the sea though; Watersports at Retallack and their Aqua Park. Somewhat like TV’s Total Wipeout, the huge inflatable Aqua Park is for fun on a grand scale. 

Stay Dry Outdoor Activities

It’s not all about getting wet with the sea though, several companies run sea fishing trips where you can land your supper. Alternatively, Newquay Sea Safari’s offer boat trips to view the marine wildlife and take you on a spectacular trip around our section of coast.

Away from the sea is the ever popular Go Karting and the fast outdoor track at St Eval operates several types of cart.

For more gentle outdoor activities there’s always horse riding, let the horse do the work as you take in the scenery with a number of coastal or rural rides. Golf is a great option with several local golf courses, some with great sea views or a dedicated driving range to improve your swing or just stick with the seaside favourite of crazy golf. With a boating lake at Trenance Gardens you can hire a boat and gently row around or maybe a pedalo for that bit more active option.
