Beach Wheelchair Hire
Beach wheelchairs are available on three Newquay Beaches - The Harbour Beach, Town Beach and Fistral Beach. The Wheelchairs are only intended for use on the beach they are hired at.
We do not advise ever using a normal wheelchair on our beaches. This also applies to powered wheelchairs and electric Scooters. The wheels will sink in all but the most compacted damp sand and will stick.
Therefore, beach access wheelchairs are specially designed with large, wide wheels and a seating position that dissipates the weight better.
The following is details on each beach:
Newquay Harbour Beach
A collaboration between Newquay Harbour, Cornwall Mobility and the Boathouse Restaurant has led to a specialist beach access wheelchair being provided at the harbour. The chair has been provided on long term lone, free of charge, by Cornwall Mobility. The Boathouse restaurant has agreed to store the chair on their premises and lone it out to enable access to the harbour beach and restaurant. Kimberley Johnson, Harbour Master said this was another positive step in welcoming all members of the community to the harbour.
The Wheelchair cannot be reserved and is subject to availability with the restaurants opening times. There are some disabled parking places down at the harbour, but no parking is available at the restaurant.

Fistral Beach
Fistral Beach Surf School has been given two Beach Wheelchairs by Cornwall Mobility for this summer. They are free to rent, however donations are welcomed. All donations go to Cornwall Mobility, who provide and service the chairs. For any questions around the wheelchairs, plaease contact Fistral Beach Surf School.
They are available only on a first come, first served basis. An item of value may be required as a deposit

Towan Beach
There is one Beach Wheelchair for hire at Towan Beach. This is located at the Blue Reef Aquarium. It is on a first come, first served basis. There is no charge for the hire but something of value will be asked for as a deposit. In some cases if you will also be visiting the the Blue Reef Aquarium they can offer parking on their site. However, you would need to organise this in advance, well before your visit. Please contact them by phone.
