Bright Days Out: Support Newquay’s Local Legends
A One-Day Itinerary Highlighting the Work of our Community Heroes
Newquay is home to a vibrant and bustling community of people who really love and care about where they live. You’re invited to join in and take part in local initiatives, whatever time of year you visit.
Whether you volunteer your time at a beach clean, show your support for our brave RNLI crews or simply choose to eat locally caught seafood, you can share in the good vibes, be kind and considerate, and champion the people who make Newquay wonderful.
About this itinerary: The following one-day itinerary has been created to help you get to know central Newquay better. The activities are all within walking distance or can be reached by public transport (please consider the environment while you’re here). Feel free to mix and match the activities to make the most of your stay.
Get your Hands Dirty
Newquay Orchard is a wonderful seven-acre urban greenspace in the heart of Newquay, where you’ll find a traditional orchard, forest garden, café, outdoor performance space and more. It was created for the community by the community with the help of over 1,000 volunteers. Find out how you can get involved with everything from horticulture to conservation by visiting the volunteer page, or pop into the café to support the initiative and see what the community groups are up to.
Community Clean-Ups
When the sun is shining, there’s no better way to meet and get involved with the local community than by helping to keep Newquay special for generations to come. Beach cleans help to remove plastic waste from the shoreline, protecting local wildlife and the beauty of the area. Find out if there’s an event happening during your stay via Fistral Beach Clean or Newquay Beach Care.
From Fistral Beach, walk around the headland and follow the South West Coast Path to Newquay Harbour. Look for the iconic white stone building known as the Huer’s Hut – a piece of Newquay’s fishing heritage, from which people used to keep watch for pilchard shoals.
Harbour Views
Newquay Harbour is a picturesque oasis in the heart of our bustling town. Home to the largest shellfish fleet on the North Coast of Cornwall, it’s worth pausing to watch the colourful fishing boats landing lobster pots and crab catches. It’s also where you’ll find Newquay’s RNLI station, which operates two inshore lifeboats from the harbour.
Visit the RNLI website to find out more about the charity’s incredible work and make a donation to help save lives at sea.
A feast awaits! Head to The Boathouse in Newquay Harbour for their popular street food market.
Street Food on the Beach
Experience fresh Cornish seafood and locally sourced ales, plus an array of globally inspired treats. From tacos and donuts to lobster landed at the quay, Street Food on the Beach is an ever-changing gathering of street-food vendors at The Boathouse in Newquay Harbour. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Newquay’s exciting food scene. Which of the local food legends will you choose?
