Cool Days Out: Adventures by the Coast
A One-Day Itinerary that will Inspire you to Embrace the Great Outdoors
Who says you can only have fun in the summer sun? The off-season is the perfect opportunity for a wild and windswept adventure. In fact, Newquay continues to draw passionate surfers year-round, while dog walkers get to make the most of the town’s quieter beaches and coastal paths.
In this itinerary, we’re inviting you to see Newquay with fresh eyes and embrace what we love about winter. Come rain or shine, let your hair become salty, breathe in the fresh Atlantic air and try a wood-fired sauna or coasteering experience.
About this itinerary: The following one-day itinerary has been created to help you get to know central Newquay better. The activities are all within walking distance or can be reached by public transport (so embrace your wild side and leave your car at home). Feel free to mix and match the activities to make the most of your stay.
Sand, Saltwater and Saunas
Whether you’re a cold-water fanatic or you can just about get your toes in, a sauna is the perfect place to warm up after a dip – and the sauna culture is strong in Newquay. You’ll find the Olla Hiki mobile wood-fired sauna at different clifftop locations throughout the year (check the website to see where it’s popping up next). Also in Newquay: Saunassa Nordic Spa and Water & Stone Wild Spa.
Exploring on foot is the ideal way to get to know Newquay better. After your sauna, enjoy a full hit of fresh Atlantic air by following the South West Coast Path around town. It’s an exhilarating way to travel between beaches or activities, and the views from the headland are well worth the walk.
Leap into an Adventure
Newquay is known for its spectacular beaches, but it’s also home to secret coves and pools. Get to know our shoreline better under the supervision of coasteering experts Bare Feet Coasteer and Newquay Activity Centre. Both organise experiences year-round, so you can make the most of the coast even if the sun doesn’t make an appearance.
Take a short walk back to Fistral Beach for dinner at The Fish House.
Seafood by the Sea
Feasting at The Fish House might just be the perfect way to wrap up a day spent embracing everything the coast has to offer. You’ll find Paul Harwood’s restaurant just a stone’s throw from Fistral Beach. With a menu that features locally caught fish and shellfish, you can tuck into the sea’s bounty while watching the waves.
