Ten Games to Keep the Family Occupied whilst Camping!
15th July 2021
Here at Visit Newquay we LOVE camping but what do you do to keep the whole family entertained? Easy, switch off all the technology and make the most of your surroundings by turning them into games!
Keep reading to find out our Ten Games to Keep the Family Occupied Whilst Camping…
Scavenger Hunt
Being outdoors makes doing a Scavenger Hunt easy! Give the children a list of what they must find when out and about and see how many they can tick off. Scavenger Hunts are great fun and if you are planning to go to the beach one day why not do another Scavenger Hunt for there too?
Obstacle Course
Bring out their competitive side and make an obstacle course. This may take a bit of planning ahead, but you can also use what you have around you to incorporate into your course for example running around trees.
Duck, Duck, Goose!
Stand in a circle facing inwards. One person walks around the outside and taps people on the head/back as they walk past wither duck or goose. If it is duck, then the person remains still but if you get goose you have to run as fast as you can around all the other people in a circle to try and get back to your spot before the person who was being Duck, Duck Goose. If the person gets back before you then its your turn to do Duck, Duck, Goose.
Glow in the Dark Rings
Great game for at dusk or in the dark. Buy some glow in the dark sticks and make them into rings, use an old plastic bottle with some weight in the bottom and take turns to throw the rings. Person who gets most rings over the bottle wins!
The Alphabet Game
Starting at A see if you can find anything beginning with that letter. Once found move on to the letter B and so forth until you get to the letter Z.
Pass the Water
Prepare to get wet, but perfect for the summer! Stand in a line and fill a cup with water. The person at the front will poor the cup backwards to the person behind them over their head and the person behind must catch as much water as possible in their cup. Keep going until the end person or the water runs out.
Detective, Detective we think we have a Murderer
Decide who is going to be the detective, once chosen that person goes away so they can’t see or hear the rest of the group. The group then decides who’s going to be the murderer, once chosen all say “Detective, Detective we think we have a murderer, help, help before we all die” to bring back the detective. The murderer will then wink at someone and they then pretend to die. The detective must try and work out who the murderer is before everyone dies. If everyone dies before the detective works out who the murderer was then the murderer wins, and they become the detective. If the detective guesses correct, then they get to choose who the next detective is.
Catch or Don’t Catch
Everyone stands in a circle, with one person in the middle. They throw the ball to whoever they choose and say either “catch” or “don’t catch” if the person doesn’t catch the ball or catches the ball when they get told “don’t catch” means they are out.
Charades
It’s an oldie but a good one! Everyone loves playing charades and the whole family can get involved. Pick either a book, film or song title and act it out leaving your team to guess what it is.
Telling Stories
Camping wouldn’t be camping without stories being told! Snuggle down and each say one sentence and see how the story evolves. The things that children come out with will sure leave the adults laughing.
