Newquay Wild Activities - Guided Rockpool Rambles and Wild Life Walks
7th August 2023
Discover something new about Newquay whether you are a local or on your holiday. Learn about our incredible coastline and the species that share our shores by joining Newquay Wild Activities on some amazing activities.
Below are just some of the fascinating guided tours that Newquay Wild Activities have on offer.
The Rockpool Ramble
Explore the South Fistral rockpools with a marine and coastal expert.
Primarily based on South Fistral, a marine and coastal expert will guide you around the rockpools to discover the weird and wonderful seaweeds and animals that live on our seashore and how they have adapted to living in this challenging environment. While being guided around the wondrous rockpools, data of which species are seen will be collected and added to the Shore Search Survey citizen science app. This data is then part of the national collection that feeds into local, regional, and national policy.

Night Time Rockpool Ramble
See the Rockpools in a different light – Ultraviolet! Come see the world by night.
Join us for an incredible journey around the shores – at night. The eerie night time world of the rockpools can be experienced using UV torches.
Did you know certain species in our pools glow? Anemones and some fish will glow an eerie green (some a little deeper will glow red). This fluorescent isn’t exactly understood – is it for protection or is it a by product of the algae that lives with them? is it their version of sun cream? Whatever the reason – it is amazing to see.
When the day time creatures hide away for protection, the activity after dark will really take you by surprise. Noises are different and it is surprisingly busy!
Normally shy animals come out to feed, crabs and shrimp are moving and milling around in large numbers and the seaweeds all give off a neon light making you feel like you are really seeing a hidden city of life.
Let us guide you through the coastline at night – come and experience something really quite special.
