All Weather Fun at Cornwall Gold this February Half Term!
15th January 2024
Discover one of Cornwall’s best kept secrets during your next holiday in Newquay with a trip to Cornwall Gold. A true hidden gem, this all-weather attraction is centred around Cornwall’s tin milling past with an interactive exhibition to explore before taking a tour of Europe’s last remaining tin mill.
Completely free to enter, Cornwall Gold offers a fascinating journey back in time, walking visitors through the county’s tin milling past complete with recordings from those who once worked here. Kids will have fun getting into character as a Bal Maiden or Tin Miller at the dress up station whilst adults can learn how Cornwall Gold are working hard to keep this piece of heritage alive.
From the interactive exhibition, flow through to their jewellery showroom which includes their Tolgus Mill collection. A touch of tin from Tolgus Mill is added to this beautiful range of jewellery and the revenue generated from its sales is put straight back into the regeneration of the mill. This vital ‘Tolgus life cycle’, is what helps keep the Grade II listed mill alive, whilst also providing a wonderfully unique memory you can wear!
Outside, it’s time for some hands-on fun with their free panning for gold, where everyone enjoys trying their luck! Enjoy touring the Tolgus Mill, marvelling at the waterworks in action whilst imagining what life would have been like not so very long ago.
Back outside there are pretty trails to explore, the stream to admire as well as several optional paid for activities such as build your own bear at Bearworks, Create and Paint pottery or the extra special ‘Pick a Pearl’ experience, which is then set to wear in your very own bespoke piece of jewellery.
Refresh back inside in the Pantry which serves up a delicious menu of homemade food, treats and goodies as you reflect on the history which surrounds you.
Completely free to enter, with free parking, this dog friendly attraction is the perfect indoor activity for young and old. A place to inspire, teach, entertain and shop for one-off pieces, all perfectly placed in the heart of Cornwall’s mining district.
Take the time to discover it for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.
