Mayor's Welcome To Newquay
28th January 2025
It is an honour as Mayor to welcome you to Newquay. Our town which glistens on the cliff top awash with the sound of crashing waves and the song of seabirds, is a special place. We have much to offer those that visit our wonderful community.
Rich Heritage and Maritime History
Newquay is rich in natural beauty, history and is a vibrant place to spend time. Nowhere is more awash with history than the Harbour area of town. There is evidence of a harbour here for almost 600 years, the current harbour was built in 1833. Here you will also find our dedicated RNLI volunteers saving lives at sea. Why not take the walk up from the harbour to the Huers Hut upon which cries of ‘Hevva, Hevva’ by the Huer to local fisherman notifying them of shoals of pilchards in the bay, could be heard.
Natural Wonders
We are blessed with an abundant and tranquil natural environment around Newquay, from our green spaces like the Killacourt, the many amazing clifftop walks such as to Porth Island where if you are lucky you may see the blow hole, of course our stunningly beautiful beaches which rival any in the world and our beautiful oceans which house much marine life from whales to seals, crabs to dolphins, witness but please keep your distance. I hope you get a chance to enjoy them all whilst you visit us but remember please to respect them and protect them so many generations can enjoy what we do today.
A Global Community
You will find our community is a real melting pot of amazing people many of whom have chosen Newquay as their home, we have residents from across the globe living here which creates a diverse and welcoming place, this in my opinion is Newquay’s greatest strength. While here chat to us ask about our journeys, on the beach, in the sea or in our many hospitality establishments. You will find me in a local coffee shop most mornings, if you see me come and have a chat!
Welcome to Newquay and enjoy your holiday!
Drew Creek, Mayor of Newquay
