Getting around Newquay by bicycle has improved this year with the brand new off-road cycle & pedestrian track over the Barrowfields. There is now a marked cycleway along a major part of Henver Road.

This is in addition to the off-road ‘Tram Track’ cycle route and a cycle path down Manor Road. This does mean you can navigate through the main center of Newquay on either off-road cycle tracks or marked roadway cycle paths.

Porth Reservoir and the Camel Trail

One of the most popular ways of enjoying cycling is the totally off-road options. One option is the long route around Porth reservoir which is about 2 miles out of Newquay.

Another very popular option is the Camel Trail. This starts just outside Padstow and was once a tramway but now is purely a cycling and walking path. One bicycle hire company, Bridge Bike Hire, is based in Wadebridge and you can hire various types of bikes including even trikes, tandems, and ‘tag alongs’ for smaller children. They also have child seats, buggy, and dog trailer add-ons available. The complete route itself extends from Padstow, through Wadebridge finishing at Wenford Bridge. The whole route takes in sea, river, and rural views and really makes cycling a pleasure.

There are also a number of similar cycling and walking trails around Cornwall as part of the Cornish Way. Many are also completely off-road and Visit Newquay Tourist Information stocks the' Cornish Way Cycling and Walking Guide' booklet that comprises a set of individual trail maps.
