Nansledan Arts Festival 2024 Round Up
We’re thrilled to look back on the first-ever Nansledan Arts Festival 2024, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in its success! Whether you offered advice, hands-on support, or simply joined us during the events, your involvement was truly invaluable.
Festival Highlights
We had a packed schedule full of diverse events, and we’re proud to say that the majority were a great success:
Music at Shiva Café: This well-attended evening brought together incredible performances by the Cornwall Choir Collective/Orchard Voices, Essy Sparrow, Chard Faul, and the Cornish folk duo Fable. The atmosphere was electric and left everyone inspired.
Workshops: Two out of four art workshops completely sold out! From creative writing to watercolour and photorealism, it was wonderful to see so many people eager to get creative.
Craft Fair: With 12 varied sellers, including beautiful pottery, paintings, and lampshades, the craft fair was a highlight of the weekend. We were especially pleased to support two Newquay-based charities, NOA Collective and Coppafeel.
Afternoon of Talks and Music at the School: Attendees enjoyed talks from bestselling author Lindsay Ashford, local expert Len Sheppard on Cornish identity, and an insightful interview with refugee advocate Fazil Ahmad Faizy, hosted by Cerys Hearsey. The Newquay duo Our Atlantic Roots and the Newquay Singers filled the afternoon with music, while Charlotte Jones from Coppafeel delivered an important volunteer talk on breast cancer awareness.
Art Trail: Our fabulous art trail showcased the work of nearly 40 local artists, both amateur and professional, creating a vibrant celebration of local creativity across the community.
Architecture and Biodiversity Trails: These new trails, prepared by the talented team at the Duchy, added even more depth to the festival, celebrating Nansledan’s unique natural and built environment.
Looking Forward
We are now working on gathering feedback from contributors and attendees, as well as preparing a report for our funders. Your thoughts and experiences will help shape future events, and we look forward to hearing from you!
